作为idfa的主办国，荷兰也遭受新冠疫情打击，目前荷兰已经有804例确诊患者，累计死亡10人。荷兰也严重缺乏医疗物资，目前已有大量医护人员感染，荷兰南部医护人员接受了检测，结果显示大约有4%的医护人员感染了新冠病毒。
idfa放出数百部纪录片，也似乎是效仿欧洲部分美术馆，博物馆开放在线浏览的形式，意在鼓励民众留在家中，减少外出，而真正喜欢纪录片的影迷也可通过流媒体观看，规避电影院或影展观影的潜在疫情风险。
2020年阿姆斯特丹纪录片节原定11月18日至29日进行，暂未宣布延期。
位于荷兰阿姆斯特丹的IDFA创立于1988年，是迄今为止世界上最大的纪录片节。每年，IDFA都会展示全世界范围内挑选出的纪录片佳作。中国自1996开始便有作品入选IDFA，到2017年，总计有近百部纪录片被影展收录，包括周浩，杜海滨，徐童，顾桃，范俭等众多如今仍活跃在影坛的纪录片导演都曾有作品在IDFA入选，IDFA参与见证了新千年以来中国纪录片，尤其是中国独立纪录片的发展与成长。
